The ultimate 4-day itinerary in Santorini

It is not a stretch to say that Santorini is the dreamiest, most romantic island in the Mediterranean. Picturesque views, unbelievably clear waters, blue-crowned sugar cube houses, and a sea of pink flowers adorning every alleyway. Since it is a relatively small island, 4 days will give you enough time to explore all the must-visit sights and hidden beauties. Chances are, however, that after 4 days spent in this paradise you will never want to leave.

Day 1

Depending on the time of your arrival, start your Santorini adventures with a traditional Greek lunch or afternoon snacks in one of the charming local taverns or coffee shops of Oia. Once you have fueled up with yummy food, you will have plenty of energy to explore the narrow, labyrinth-like alleyways crisscrossing this quaint, whitewashed village. You may lose time and space as you stroll around the cobblestoned streets but make sure to be at Agios Nikolaos Castle before dusk. It is a popular vantage point to watch the sunset so you might want to arrive a little earlier than the other tourists. While the island is still bathing in afterglow, walk down (or take a taxi) to the tiny fishing port called Amoudi Bay, which is situated just below Oia, for a delicious seafood dinner.

Day 2

Set your alarm early so you can hit the road before the heat comes. Today, we invite you for a little time travel to Ancient Akrotiri, the most important archeological site on the island. Also called the Greek Pompeii, the once flourishing town was the center of commerce in Santorini before the settlement was buried under a thick layer of ashes during the 16th century BC volcanic eruption. After hours of wandering through the ancient ruins, what could be a more perfect way to spend the afternoon than taking a cruise trip and sailing into the Santorini sunset? If you are looking for the ultimate romantic experience this one is for you. We propose a private sunset charter on a luxurious yacht, combined with a bottle of volcanic Santorini wine and a mouthwateringly fresh seafood dinner on board. If you feel adventurous, you can also pick a different itinerary and visit the island’s famous dormant volcano and soak in the natural hot springs afterward.

Day 3

It may come to you as a surprise, but Santorini makes an excellent hiking destination due to its numerous winding routes crisscrossing the island, offering breathtaking vistas of the volcanic caldera. If you want to experience Santorini in its hilly grandeur while passing by all the picturesque highlights of the island, we recommend you the Oia-Fira trail. The fairly easy 10-kilometer (~6 miles) hike will take you through the sleepy, little village of Imerovigli, also known as the “Balcony to the Aegean”, Skaros rock, the highest point on the island, and the blue-crowned chapel of Agios Gerasimos in Firostefani. Alternatively, if you are feeling less sporty or want to try out something new, you can also a take buggy tour to explore all the hidden spots of the island. At the end of the day, book a tasting tour at a local vineyard and relax with a glass – or two or three – of wine while enjoying the panorama.

Day 4

The vast blue Aegean Sea and the whitewashed villages make perfect backdrops for a romantic photo shoot with your partner or spouse. The island’s skilled photographer will cater to all your needs, finding the most stunning locations for the photo session such as the caldera cliffs, the traditional churches, whitewashed rooftops, and the iconic windmills. Ladies can also try this year’s hit trend: the flying dress photo shoot. The long, elegant dresses flying in the wind look fabulous in pictures.

Finally, to end your Santorini vacation in style, enjoy the untouched nature while riding on a horse at Vlychada Beach, a picturesque canyon with dramatic white cliffs towering over the dark, inky sand. We wish you a wonderful time in Santorini filled with unforgettable memories!
